Install Android 5.0 Lollipop on Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 (Snapdragon)

Naveen Robsworth | 14 Feb 2015 | ROMs/ Samsung

Lollipop on Galaxy Note 3

Today here we are with some good news for the Galaxy Note 3 users in Europe who are eagerly waiting for some Lollipop love. Samsung has been constantly on the news with lots of Lollipop updates and leaks which are driving the Android users crazy. Unlike the other OEMs, Samsung is very successful at releasing the Lollipop updates for its flagship as well as the mid-range devices alike and we love Samsung for that. We’ve already seen a Lollipop firmware leak for the Galaxy Note 3 users just a couple of weeks back and now we’re talking official release.

The European Galaxy Note 3 LTE SM-N9005 users are up for some luck today as it’s raining Lollipop all over Europe. The update was spotted in Poland for the unlocked Note 3, and for the Vodafone subscribers in United Kingdom, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Germany, Romania and few other carrier locked devices in some of the European regions. The firmware comes with the build number N9005XXUGBOA5 and updates your Note 3 to the Android 5.0 Lollipop. If the frequency of the updates from Samsung holds constant, you might see another update very soon (Hoping!!!).

If you’re lucky enough, you might have already seen the OTA notification in your notification bar. To manually check for the notification, navigate to Settings → About phone → Software update and check for the latest update. Don’t lose you heart if you don’t see the update notification even after checking for it manually. Follow the quick guide given below and upgrade your Galaxy Note 3 to Android 5.0 Lollipop manually using the Odin firmware flashing tool.

Prepare Your Device

  • Charge your device to at least 60% battery life to avoid any mishaps during the process.
  • Install appropriate drivers for your Samsung smartphone. You can find them here.
  • Enable USB Debugging on your Galaxy Note 3.
  • Backup everything, this includes your device’s storage, SMS, contacts, and apps etc. The process will erase everything off your device.

Install Android Lollipop on Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005

If you’re new to Odin tool and firmware flashing, do follow our detailed guide from below link:

Install Stock Firmware on Samsung Galaxy Devices Using Odin – Detailed Guide

  1. Download and extract both the firmware and the Odin files in the same directory on your PC.
  2. Double-click on Odin3 3.09.exe to start the program.
  3. Boot into the download mode. To do this:
    • Power off your phone first.
    • Press and hold  Volume Down + Power + Home together until you see Warning screen with Android logo.
    • Press Volume Up to acknowledge the warning and boot into download mode
  4. Connect your device to the PC using a USB cable and make sure the device is detected.
  5. In Odin, click AP button and select the firmware file with .tar.md5 extension
  6. Make sure Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are enabled in Odin. Do not select the Re-Partition option unless you use the PIT file for your device.
  7. Finally, hit the start button and wait until the firmware is flashed. Once completed, the device will reboot automatically.
  8. Disconnect the device from PC and wait until the device restarts.

That’s it. Once rebooted, you’ll see the Android 5.0 Lollipop setup screen on your device.

It’s not an Odin issue. Try these: reboot PC and Phone, uninstall and re-install USB drivers, use a different cable and USB port.

    Hi,
I am using N-9005 model with 4.4.2. I am from Pakistan and this device was not officially introduced for selling in my country. Anyway it was available in market so i buy it. But i was unable to use LTE service on this device because it was not showing the option to select LTE network in connection settings. So the only way to make it work was rooting. I root my device and change a single value 0 to 1 in a specific file to make it show options for LTE and it works. But it also flag the knox from 0x0 to 0x1. Now i am unable to get 5.0 update. So i was looking for a way to get that update. Is there a way to get it guys?

Can you please be more specific about how to apply the update? I mean do i need to format my phone first or juat install the framework with Odin. Because i am not very expert in this field. In some articles i read that if your Knox counter was flaged then it can cause errors in updating the framework. Or if your phone is modified then the official framework will show errors while updating it. Secondly do i need to root my mobile again after update to active LTE service?

I wasted half day today removing 5.0 and downgrading to 4.4.2 on my n9005. After suffering for a month on 5.0: battery time reduced by x2-3; programs hang and stacked; terrible white background of the interface – less visibility and more battery drain then former black; such functions as voice call or fast dial now inserted several yes/no questions on the screen!!! instead of just calling in one press or one voice command, as they do in 4.4.2. And many issues with stability etc. You can google it and read others… JUST STAY AWAY from it. I thought “newer, later – better” WRONG.

You cannot Sim/Network Unlock with the Region Unlock App. The region unlock is for regions (Asia, Americas, Europe, etc). My unit was Network Locked to Smart as well, I purchased an official unlock code, after unlocking, I flashed lollipop and it’s been a breeze since..

      1. Insert a SIM card that’s not supported by your Note 3,

      2. You’ll get “SIM lock” windows which you dismiss,

      3. Download install (enable uknown sources first) this app from Chainfire from XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470551

      4. Once app is installed simply run it and press “Region Unlock”
      5. Press “Reboot now” and you’ll be good to go (should be).

Well, if you follow the guide carefully, there is hardly a chance that your phone is bricked and if it does somehow, you will be able to restore it.

    Hello I am from Romania.

Owning a SM-N9005 Galaxy Note 3 LTE is not encoded.

Can I install on it version 5.0 Romania (Vodafone) ?

If your phone is not carrier branded, better use the Poland firmware. Romania (Vodafone) will also work for you though.
