Chinese smartphone maker Vivo unveiled a Dual display equipped smartphone, the Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition. The Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition features a Gorilla Glass covered main 6.39in Full HD+ extra tall 19.5:9 AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels that makes up for a pixel density of 403 PPI. A secondary, again Gorilla Glass protected 5.49in Full HD display is present at the rear of the device which also is of the AMOLED variety featuring an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixel. The performance all you need is handled by the latest and greatest, flagship grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled to an Adreno 630 GPU aided by 10GB of RAM. Internal memory is generous at 128GB in size. Speaking of which, the internal memory is non-expandable, meaning the device is not equipped with a memory card slot. Coming to biometrics, an in-display fingerprint scanner and Vivo’s Face Unlock for unlocking the phone (although not secure enough compared to Apple’s Face ID) by using ToF camera are onboard as biometric authentication options.

Photography is handled by a triple camera setup at the rear featuring a primary wide-angle 12MP (f/1.8 lens) (4-axis OIS)(PDAF) + a 2MP (depth and night mode) (f/1.8 lens) + Time of Flight (ToF) for depth perception and face unlock (f/1.3) sensors combination. You can shoot videos at a resolution of up to 2160p @ 30fps. As the device features a secondary display, there is no requirement for a front camera system.

A 3500mAh battery is onboard to provide enough juice to the Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition. A USB-C port for charging is onboard the device. Having said that the device also features fast battery charging (10V/2.25A).
Coming to the connectivity side of the device, it has you all covered with Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE with support for A2DP and EDR, GPS for navigation and location-based services and more. Thankfully, a 3.5mm audio jack is present in the NEX Dual Display for audiophiles out there.
The Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition runs on Android 9.0 Pie based Funtouch OS 4.5 which is Vivo’s take on Android customization out of the box.
Pricing, availability and paint jobs
Coming to the pricing and availability, the Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition will set you back $720, preorders have begun in China and the smartphone will be available on December 29, 2018. With that said, worldwide availability is yet to be known ad confirmed. As far as the paint jobs are concerned, it will be available in Blue or pink.
Design: A no-notch dual display Gorilla Glass sandwich and metal mid-frame build device
The Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition takes advantage of its name to get rid of the notch by featuring a dual AMOLED display both protected by a 2.5D Gorilla Glass. Holding the glass panels together is a sturdy aluminum frame. Also, the dual display design helps the eliminate the need of a front camera setup. All in all, at least going by the images, the device does look exquisite and premium. The device also features two power buttons, just in case, to compensate for the way you hold it.
