Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 (3G + WiFi) Gets Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update

Rakesh | 20 Mar 2013 | Android News/ ROMs/ Samsung

Do you own a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100? Here is a good new for you as Samsung has finally started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for this device. The first batch of the update for the device was released back in January when the users of Tab 2 P5100 in Chile reported receiving Android 4.1.2 OTA update. But that update was meant for the users of Entel PCS only. But now the first firmware for unbranded Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 (3G + WiFi) users in Hong Kong is out and ready to be flashed.

If you are from Hong Kong, you should be able to receive the Over-the-Air update via Samsung Kies and on device software update feature. Go to tab Settings> About and tap on Software update to force the download. If you have rooted your Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100, you will not be able to receive the OTA update. If this be the case, you should download the full firmware file from our link below and install it using Odin flasher tool. Since this is an unbranded firmware, it can be flashed on all international version of Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 models, regardless of country or region. To check your device model, open Settings> About. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Update update for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 (3G + WiFi) brings some new features and improvements.

How to Install:

Download the preferred firmware file in zip and extract it on your PC. Inside the unzipped folder, you will see a file with .tar.md5 extension. This is the firmware you have to install using Odin. See the full Installation Tutorial Here.

I mean you can install any firmware from above that is not tagged with the name of a carrier /network provider.

          For example, this one:http://samsung-updates.com/details/20567/Galaxy_Tab_2_10.1_3G_plus_WiFi/GT-P5100/DBT/P5100XXDMD1.html

Hey 🙂 no its not but has csc of xsa.
I rooted and flashed it about a year ago and was trying to flash it back with official stock rom xsa-p5100xxdmi1 (unbranded australian 4.2.2) so future updates could be gained ota or through kies…. when i downloaded the wrong file after trying so many links that didnt work i must’ve just been happy one did and didn’t check it properly.
I have now reinstalled cwm rom manager and recoveries and downloaded and flashed slimbean 4.3 onto the tab 2 just to get the sim card back up and running…. i would still love a stock rom that is official with xsa csc so if i ever need to flash back to stock i can.
Even links for earlier firmwares were not working. I searched for 3 days!!!
If you could point me in a working links direction i would be crazy greatful 🙂

But for that you’ll have to root the device:

    Hi,

I’m from the Philippines. I got my GT-P5100 which I won from an online contest. They sent me the device and I’m not sure if it’s branded or unbranded. However, I was able to use a local sim (SunCelluar) and it works. Does that mean it’s unbranded? Can I download and install the “Philippines: P5100-XTE-P5100XXDMD1-1365595262.zip” file and does it have English language support? My device’s details are as follows if you may find it useful:

    Build Number: IML74K.P5100WALD7
    Baseband Version: P5100XXLD7
    Android: 4.0.3

I’ve been looking all over the net on how to update my tab to JB and so far this is the most informative site I’ve seen. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

You will not be able to update your device OTA as long as it is rooted. You will have download the firmware from above and install it manually using Odin : http://droidviews.com/2013/update-samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1-gt-p5100-with-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-official-firmware/

Hi Rick, you will face some problems with the Google Apps in China. Anyways, download the latest play store apk file from the following link, copy to your tab and install it like a normal Apk file. You will also need to enable “Unknown Sources” option from Settings> Security” to install any app this way-

      http://droidviews.com/2012/download-google-apps-gapps-for-your-android-device-on-gbicsjb/

If you want to change firmware, install the one for Hon Kong (not Chine) from here:http://droidviews.com/2013/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1-wifi-gt-p5110-gets-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-firmware-update/

      Hope it helps you.

If your device model is GT-P5100 (international), you can install this firmware and it will work fine though it is not for your country. If you have any suspicions as to install it or not, better not do it.

I download the UK ver 4.1.1 branded VOD. and flash it in my tab2 p5100 unbraded and I worked in it about an hour!!!!!! every thing was very good as I came from ICS 4.0.3, but the only problem I faced is there is no arabic language can be added to Samsung keyboard. So I decided to flash my tab with an Asian Rom 4.1.2, expecting that arabic language can be founded, so I chose the unbraded Serilank Rom, and it is as I expected.
Now, I have in my tab2 p5100, JB 4.1.2 with multilanguage samsung UK and arabic keayboard, and every thing is fantastic.
