Recovery and download modes are different things. Volume Down+ Power button takes to Download Mode. And Volume Up+Power boots device into recovery mode. To install a firmware, you need to enter Download Mode, not Recovery mode.

I am one who had the N8013 and successfully went to the N8010 4.1.1 Now that the 4.1.2 is out how do I get it? Is there a way to go back to the N8013 and get the over the air update or to update the N8010 4.1.2? My device now says that because I have modified the device software updates are not available.. Thanks!

      Try changing CSC: http://droidviews.com/2012/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
You can also use the Triangle Away app to reclaim the warranty and OTA.

I have a question. If i have a romanian n8010 device, should i update my device to the german ICS first ? Or can I use the “short way” ? 10x

You must install the German ICS version before installing the update.zip.

      or

You can change the CSC of your device to DBT and then you can directly flash the update.zip

Theoretically, it should not, but one should always backup important data stored on internal memory.

Tried it with the NL version, build number, IMM76D.N8010XWALI4 – no go with the German Update, complains: … verifing update package, assert failed: file_getprop(“/system/build.prop”, “ro.build.fingerprint”) == “samsung/p4notewifixx/p4notewifiw:4.0.4/IMM76D/N8010/XXALI3:user/release-keys” || “samsung/p4notewifixx/p4notewifiw:4.1.1/JRO03C/N8010XXBLK9/release-keys”

so I am guessing NL is XWALI4 where XXALI3 is needed.

You will have to take your device to the German ICS version XXALI3 first. Only then will the update.zip recognize it and you will be able to flash it.

I get the same error message as Fabien and the error is about “package.zip” not “update.zip”. I have checked the MD5 sum and that verifies so it’s not a faulty download as far as I can tell.

      Hi David,
Did you try flashing the Update.zip after upgrading to the German ICS firmware? At least five guys in my circle 3 of which happen to be from UK, US and Canada whos have installed successfully.

No, not yet, I wanted to take the minimalist approach first. As the Update.zip has all the main European countries built into it I was interested what needed to be changed to make it into a UK update rather than a German one.

Yes it must have been just a temporary glitch.

Will this update install directly onto a UK Galaxy Note 10.1 or will I have to put ICS on first?

Also will installing the german update mean that I will be forever constrained into downloading and installing updates rather than getting them over the air?

The reason I ask about future updates is that I will be giving this tablet as a present to someone, and I won’t be there to perform any future updates if needed.

Yes, since the update.zip is for German versions, it might not recognize your device to be eligible. Install the German ICS then flash the update.zip.

In fact, in recent days the Germand and Polish have been the first to receive the latest updates from Samsung. But if you wish to install Android 4.1.2 for UK, you can later install the UK version when it is available (in a few weeks, I hope) and then you can receive updates via Kies.

The error in zip package points to a corrupt zip that has not been downloaded properly. Re-download the zip and try again. There is no reason for the firmware not to install. Update your device with the German ICS firmware first and then upgrade to JB using Recovery as directed. It has been tested.
