Lenovo took the wraps off their much anticipated bezel-less smartphone on June 5, 2018, called the Z5. The company teased the smartphone as a true bezel-less one well before its launch date. However, as it turns out, the Z5 is yet another device to enter into the world of notches as in it features a notched Full HD+ 6.2in IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 1080 x 2246. The Z5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with an Adreno 509 GPU along with 6 GB of RAM on both the 64/128 GB variant. Unfortunately, there isn’t a dedicated MicroSD card slot for expandable storage.
Photography is handled by an AI-assisted dual camera setup at the rear featuring a 16MP + 8MP sensor combo. An 8MP sensor is featured up front that is also artificially intelligent. A 3000 mAh battery is onboard the Lenovo Z5 to keep the lights on and also the device supports 18W fast charging via the USB-C port to top it up fast in the morning. Coming to the connectivity side of the Lenovo Z5, it has you all covered with WI-FI 802.11 a/ b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE with A2DP, GPS and more. Oh, and by the way, the device features the good old headphone jack we all love. The Lenovo Z5 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo-based ZUI 4.0 (Lenovo’s custom UI for the Chinese market) out of the box.
Pricing and color options
The 6/64GB and 6/128GB of the Lenovo Z5 will set you back CNY 1,299/approx. Rs. 13,678 and CNY 1,799/approx. Rs. 18,948 respectively. The Z5 will be available in Blue, Black, and Aurora. The Aurora color is a unique color of its own that shifts under different lighting conditions.
Don’t worry folks, Lenovo promises Android P upgrade for the Z5
At the launch, Lenovo VP Chang Cheng promised an upgrade to Android P for the Z5 once Android P is officially announced.
Design, why are most of the OEMs impersonating the Apple iPhone X?
Design wise, the Lenovo Z5 looks sleek and elegant at the same time resembling the iPhone X a.k.a. the “FruitPhone X”. However, there is no denying the fact that Lenovo was only and only inspired by the “FruitPhone X” with the dead ringer being that infamous and controversial notch featured up front. Flip the Z5 and again at the rear, it features a vertical camera module placement that looks similar to the one on the “FruitPhone X”.
