The Sony Xperia Z is a smartphone for all those who use phones in extreme conditions. It is a water-resistant beauty. While being invulnerable to water is a great quality that all of us might want to have on our phones, it also stems an issue and that is low volume on external speaker. Sony has used very small speakers in its latest flagship and that might also be a reason for the low volume issue.

However, blaming Sony alone for the volume problem will not be justified as most Android devices have it. I have Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2 and HTC One and low volume seems to an universal issue with them all. Keeping the wish of users to have louder volume on their Android phone, we always keep digging for some working solution to increase volume for a range of devices. In the past, we have done some tutorials on boosting speaker volume on Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2 and Nexus 4 and now we bring another volume boost mod that can let Sony Xperia Z users enjoy louder volume on external speaker and headphone.

The Extra Volume Boost mod has been developed by ZeroInfinity from XDA and works of most Sony Xperia phones with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or above and Qualcomm processor. The volume boost mod has been tested and found working of the following devices:

  • Xperia Z
  • Xperia ZL
  • Xperia SP
  • Xperia T
  • Xperia V

If you have any of the phones listed above with Jelly Bean, you can install the mod via a custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP. Needless to say, the mod only works on Xperia devices with root access.

The volume boost mod for Xperia Z and other devices comes in 3 versions. Download one that corresponds to your device’s ROM. If you want really louder volume, try the super loud mod.

How to Install:

First of all install a root file browser on your phone. Go to System/etc/snd_soc_msm folder and copy “snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3” file to your phone’s storage so that you might revert back to original sound effects in case you do not like the volume hack.

  1. Copy the volume boost zip file that you downloaded from above to your phone.
  2. Now turn off the device and boot it into CWM or TWRP Recovery.
  3. Select “install zip from sdcard” or “Install” option (in TWRP).
  4. Select the zip file and confirm installation.
  5. Finally, reboot your phone.
  6. Done!

When your phone boots up, you should feel the difference and louder volume on it. Enjoy!

How to Get Louder Volume on Sony Xperia Z

  1. Will this work for internal speaker as well?????? my in call volume is too low… any possible solution for this???

  2. I can’t make it work man, I make permissions like in the old file but It doesn’t work. After restarting there is no difference. My ROM is stock based and I’ve tried with the two versions for it.

  3. You only need to push files found in system folder. Just leave the contents of META-INF folder.

    Just move this file: snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3

to system/etc/snd_soc_msm folder and fix permissions. Do not delete the original file. Just add a .bak after it or at least backup its copy to the external storage.

  4. Thanks! But where to put the files from META-INF, can’t find this directory in the phone with the search option in the root browser, or i just have to replace only snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3 file

  5. Yes you can extract the zip and push the files into system using a root browser app. Pleas e note that the mod work with Jelly Bean firmware only.

  6. It sound stupid and fondly, but can we just replace the original file with the new one from the zip folder manually, cuz my phone is rooted but the status of the bootloader is NO! 🙁
