If you’ve ever looked for a high-end gaming laptop, RAZER is a name you couldn’t have missed. The gaming-focused company acquired Nextbit Robin around the start of 2017. Naturally, everybody was speculating and expecting RAZER to come up with a smartphone, built for gaming.
A smartphone built for gaming? Aren’t the powerful thousand dollar flagships already top of the line hardware? Those were the questions RAZER would have to answer if they were to come with such a smartphone. RAZER Inc. quite recently announced that smartphone, aptly called Razer Phone and they do make a good pitch. If there ever was a time to sport Razer wallpapers on your phone, it is now.
The RAZER Phone sports a screen with variable refresh rate, up to 120Hz. This makes RAZER phone the first smartphone ever to have that kind of a screen. Although if you feel like you’ve heard this before, you have, except it wasn’t a smartphone but the iPad Pro. Razer is marketing this display as an ‘UltraMotion’ display and the name does fit the bill. With frame rates of up to 120fps, you can see twice the number of frames compared to any other smartphone. This results in fluid animations which is quite important for gaming and gamers.
Apart from the 5.7-inch 1440p screen, the phone packs in the Snapdragon 835 paired with 8GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. You’d think a smartphone centered around gaming would have a few extra Gigs of storage but at least it is expandable via a MicroSD card.
The smartphone also sports stereo front-facing speakers with dual amplifiers and THX certified DAC. In theory, these should be the best sounding speakers on a smartphone ever. RAZER Inc. has included a 4000mAh battery to make sure you’re not scared of running out of juice.
