Unlock Verizon Galaxy Note 2 (SCH-I605) Bootloader and Install TWRP

Rakesh | 13 Dec 2012 | Guides/ Root/ Samsung

Verizon Galaxy Note 2 was released with locked a bootloader since Verizon Wireless did not want it to be open to custom development, ignoring the fact that there are great minds of Android community are smart enough to undo their cunning deed. In fact, Verizon Galaxy Note 2’s bootloader was unlocked as early as last Monday when XDA developer’s Adam Outler claimed that he with his great team have had been successfully unlocked the device. And now, Adam is back again with a full-fledged video teaser that explains to us the whole procedure.

The Verizon Galaxy Note 2 was rooted just a couple of days after it launched, but a full bootloader unlock method was not devised till Adam came up with his achievement. The Verizon Note 2 with unlocked bootloader will allow developers to develop custom recoveries, custom ROMs and more hacks and mods for the device. After being unlocked, the device has become, as Adam says, ‘the most secure device on the market, to the least secure device publicly available“.

Caution!

The Bootloader Unlock method described here is only meant for Verizon Galaxy Note 2 SCH-I605. Please, do not use it with any other Galaxy Note 2 variant. Having unlocked your phone, do NOT flash anything that contains a sboot.bin file.

Unlocking VZW Note 2 Bootloader:

Before we set out to actually unlock the bootloader on Verizon Galaxy Note 2, you will need to download the following files that would be used during the procedure.

  1. Turn on USB Debugging mode on your Vzw Note 2
  2. CASUALSuckItVerizon-Perscription7.jar
  3. SuckItVerizon_Odin_Package.tgz
  4. BootloaderBaseline.tgz

Instructions to Unlock Bootloader:

The whole procedure consists of mainly three steps, as stated by Adam, that are given below.

  • Part 1: Run the CASUAL Exploit
    1. Put your device into development mode. Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging
    2. You need Java installed to double-click or run with “java -jar path_to_file.jar” Do you have java?
    3. Click the “Root and Unlock Me Now!” button and accept(continue) any notifications which may pop up.
  • Part 2: Install Suck It Verizon Insecure Bootloader+Recovery
    1. Start Odin or click the “reset” button at the bottom if it’s already open.
    2. Place SuckItVerizon_Odin_Package.tgz into the “Bootloader” section of Odin
    3. Click Start
