Moto G, the cheap, yet very powerful device of the year 2013. The device capable of competing for most of the mid-level devices with a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB RAM. With its release in November 2013, took a real short period of time to root the very same. PaulOBrien is the one who finally pulled the trigger to root the Moto G using a boot.img named Superboot.
What Does Superboot Do?
Superboot is a boot.img or a kernel image file, when flashed to your Moto G will Install SU binaries and APK, in turn rooting your device the very first time you boot. The plus point added is, you don’t need to wipe any data partitions or overwrite the current ROM, all you need to do is to boot your device with Superboot and voila! you’ll have it rooted.

Prerequisites
- Before you root, you need your bootloader to be unlocked, you can do so directly and easily via the Motorola website. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your phone’s data.
- Install Android SDK: Click Here
- Backup your device’s storage, SMS, Contacts and other necessary stuff as unlocking will erase all the data.
- Charge your phone above at least 60% to avoid any mishaps during the process.
Root Moto G (Windows/MAC/Linux)
Follow the instruction given below to root Moto G with Superboot script on Windows/MAC/Linux.
- Download Superboot (r2-motog-superboot.zip): Click Here
- Extract the downloaded r2-motog-superboot.zip and extract it to a suitable location.
- Power off the device, press volume down and power button all together to boot your Moto G into bootloader mode.
- Connect your device to the PC via USB cable.
- Windows user, run superboot-windows.bat as Administrator.
- MAC users, Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type the following commands:
chmod +x superboot-mac.shsudo ./superboot-mac.sh - Linux users, Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type the following commands:
chmod +x superboot-linux.shsudo ./superboot-linux.sh
Now reboot your device and it shall be rooted. No complications, huh? Try it now.
