You may not have heard of it but Meizu is a popular smartphone brand in China. The company has just released its latest smartphone called the Meizu Note 9. The phone puts Meizu in the growing list of smartphone manufacturers with 48 MP camera smartphones. In terms of looks, it looks very similar to everything else we’ve seen in 2018 and then 2019 so far.

Design

The design isn’t bad by any means but it’s also not something out of the ordinary. Thin bezels, a bottom chin, and a notch have all become so regular. The Meizu Note 9 has all of that and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom along with the charging port and the single speaker grill. The sim tray is on the left while the power and volume buttons are on the right. The fingerprint reader is present and rear-mounted. Pretty standard stuff.

The back of the phone is made of shiny glass, unlike most phones under the $200 price bracket. Look out for fingerprints though. The notch on the front display is like a water-drop notch but less curvy, hence smaller.

Specs

The front features a huge 6.2-inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2244 pixels. This results in a pixel per inch count of 403 and a ~84.7% screen-to-body ratio. The aspect ratio is an unusual 18.7:9 so it sounds like 18:9 but is closer to 19:9.

Under the display hides the Qualcomm SDM675 Snapdragon 675 Octa-core CPU with Adreno 612 GPU. This is supported with 4GB or GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. There’s also a variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. All of that set up is powered by a large 4000 mAh battery which also supports 18W fast charging.

The notch on the front houses a 20 MP f/2.0 selfie shooter which supports video recording up to 1080p @30fps. The rear cameras on the back consist of a 48 MP f/1.7 sensor with PDAF support and a 5 MP depth sensor. The rear cameras support video recording up to 1080p at 30fps, and panorama. The cameras are aided with a dual LED dual tone flash that sits right below the camera module.

The device runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box with Flyme OS 7.1 running on top.
