Rakesh | 01 Nov 2013 | Google/ News

KitKat for Nexus Devices

Well, it was already an open secret that the Mountain View giant would be releasing the new version of Android in November, but nobody would have even thought that it would be out on the very first day of the month. We do not know whether it is a planned thing or just a coincidence but we did not expect the KitKat gift on a day like Halloween! Google has made it pretty clear that the new version of the OS, Android 4.4 KitKat, will come pre-installed with the new Nexus 5.

With Nexus 5 available for immediate purchase, Android 4.4 KitKat will then roll out to all compatible Nexus device in the coming weeks. According to Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President of Android, the KitKat update will start rolling out first to the following Nexus device:

  • Nexus 4
  • Nexus 7
  • Nexus 10

And then it will come to the following Samsung and HTC devices:

  • Google Edition Galaxy S4
  • Google Edition HTC One

Of course, there are a plethora of device that deserves a KitKat treat but the roadmap of the update for them are subject to their respective manufacturers. There is a piece of sad news for the users of Google’s older Nexus phones like Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S because the official  Android 4.4 wouldn’t make its way to them.
