If you play games on your PC, or your Xbox, PS4, etc. there is a good chance you may have heard of Hitman. If not, you may have heard of the forgettable Hitman movie that came sometime last year, or before. What I’m trying to say is Hitman is a pretty popular game franchise with its own following. It’s no GTA but it certainly has its fans. Square Enix hasn’t made any efforts to port the games over to Android. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any decent Hitman titles on the largest mobile platform. There are two, in fact, Hitman Sniper and Hitman Go.
Neither of these is originally free but you can grab Hitman Sniper for free right now. Hitman Go has been on discount for quite some time and is currently available for $0.99 (₹80). We’re going to be talking about the free one though. Hitman Sniper is just that, a sniper game that you can play on your Android. The game has been downloaded more than a million times. If that’s not convincing enough, it has been rated 4.6 out of 5 by over 164 thousands of impressed users. It’s also a Google Play Editors’ Choice.
What’s it about
If you’ve played Hitman before on any console or PC you’ll know it is not your traditional stealth game. It involves a lot of patience and other unique mechanisms for eliminating your target. That is to say, the game really lets you get creative. Similarly, Hitman Sniper on Android isn’t trying to be a traditional sniper game but it isn’t the deepest game either. Most mobile games wouldn’t want to grab all your attention by being fast-paced and action-packed. Hitman Sniper is slower, more methodical, and it probably might not instantly appeal to most people.
You’re assigned missions by the familiar voice of Diana whom you’d know if you’ve played any of the Hitman games before. All you have to do in each mission is eliminate your target(s) using the scope of your sniper rifle. You gain abilities as you progress as well as better weapon upgrades.
The gameplay is simple enough with just the right amount of challenge. Earlier levels might not seem like it but just hang in there. The difficulty obviously increases the higher up the levels you move. You can also connect using your Facebook account and match your score against friends. It also supports cloud save through Google Play Games which is really essential if you have multiple Android devices that you’d want to play on.
Although, if you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll more than likely enjoy the game. I’m a fan of the Hitman series but I’m not a fan of touchscreen mobile games. But I have to say I’m impressed. Don’t go in expecting an epic game with an epic storyline though. That’s just not Hitman, something its Hollywood movie adaptation clearly got right. They forgot though movies need strong stories, unlike Hitman games.
Coming back to the game, although the game is fun, considering its a sniper game, there is but one map and just the one location where you have to find and eliminate your targets, again and again. It’s not as bad as it sounds but the game really could use fresh locations because some people get bored easily.
The Android game has a rather large 508MB size so you might want to download it only over Wi-Fi. The game itself does not require you to be connected to the internet in order to play, but some of its features do. There are in-app purchases too worth $0.99 – $4.99 (₹ 77.55 – ₹ 4,000) however they’re not necessary. The game itself doesn’t really try to make life hard for you in order to sell you those items. And those are the kind of in-app purchases I don’t mind. A game that gets this right has already won a favorable opinion from me. And if it is as much fun as Hitman Sniper I’m definitely going to recommend it.
Hitman Sniper is free for the next 7 days so you can take your time. It’s a no-brainer though, a highly rated paid game available for free, why won’t you try it?
