For many, the wait continues as their devices still run on the old generation Android Marshmallow. For the proud owners of Samsung Galaxy S7 devices however, the wait is over. After a lot of speculation and even more frustration coming from the S7 community threads on all relevant platforms, the release of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Samsung flagship is now officially confirmed and undergoing a rollout.
Taking a look back at how Samsung previously handled Android version transitions, you can say that the manner in which Android Nougat was delivered time-wise is pretty convenient. However, from a non tech savvy, smartphone consumer perspective, the wait wasn’t as pleasing. The latest Android version has been out for a while, so Galaxy S7 users can definitely count a good chunk of time from when they first started expecting the build. The first sign of good news for them arrived all the way back in November 2016 when Samsung started putting out Beta builds for the operating system. This gave S7 users the opportunity to try the newest features first hand and see what Nougat is all about.
When the first plans for S7 to be updated in this time frame were announced, they also included the other version of the device which is the Galaxy S7 Edge. While the first is now receiving the update, the latter is nowhere to be seen and no word has yet been revealed about the fate of the Galaxy S7 Edge.
If you’ve been hoping this meant you can now get the update in the US, that’s not really the case yet, unfortunately. The OTA update which gave us the news in the first place was regarding a firmware that had the version number G935FXXU1DPLT. It is to our understanding that this is pertaining to the UK. The device which benefited from the update has the model number SM-G935F.
