Huawei has always been very focused on the camera quality when introducing a phone from the P series. The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro from last year were some of the best camera phones around then. This year, with the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro, the company has trumped itself in the camera department. Whether the Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro wallpapers manage to trump last year’s stock wallpapers from the P20 and P20 pro is a decision we’ll leave up to you.

Design

From a design perspective, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are a nice evolution over the P20 and P20 Pro. The glass back comes in new, striking colors that are hard to not notice. Specifically, the Amber Sunrise variant of the P30 and 30 Pro is stunning to look at. At the same time, the notch is smaller than ever, although still not as cool as a punch hole notch. Like I’ve said before though, this little notch actually takes up less screen space than a camera cutout.

If you notice it though, the camera module is a bit too large to be placed on the side. Maybe it is just me, but it feels a bit odd once you notice its size.

Camera

The highlight of these devices is unarguably the camera. The Leica-powered triple-camera setup consists of a 20 MP shooter with the ultra-wide angle f/2.2 lens, the main 40 MP camera with a wide-angle (or regular in phone terms) f/1.8 OIS lens, and finally, you get the f/3.4 periscope telephoto OIS lens for 5x optical zoom.

On the Huawei P30 Pro, you get an additional camera although that’s debatable. The 8 MP sensor below the flash on the P30 Pro is actually a time of flight sensor. Combined with the other three cameras it lets the Huawei P30 Pro zoom in optically up to 5x without. Combine that with the digital zoom and you have a powerful 10X zoom on your hand. For those willing to lose a little detail, the camera can even zoom up to 50X! Let’s call it, it’s insane. At 50X, OIS can’t help much but just the fact that you can zoom in as much, where the camera is even beating your eyes, it’s incredible. It’s insane but in a very good way.
