HTC One M9 Camera Port for Android (AOSP/ CM ROM)

Jishnu Sur | 16 Mar 2015 | Android Apps/ Downloads

The MWC is the biggest event for all smartphone lovers. OEMs from the whole world take as an opportunity to introduce the best of their technology. It has been more than a week now since Samsung and HTC unveiled their flagships and with every day passing, we come across new goodies shared from the Galaxy S6 and One M9. The beauty of Android lies in variety and customization. Most OEMs have their own customized version of the OS with different sets of features, apps and user interface. This variety gives the impression of Androids rather than Android.

As soon as the system dumps from new devices pop up to the surface, our developers start digging them to come up with something useful for the whole community. This trend has always been there since the evolution of Android.

Hi friends, I am Jishnu! I have shared several mods and ports in the past and now I have something interesting for you all. Every developer has his forte and some people see me as a master of mods and ports. For the past few days, I have been working hard on porting HTC One M9’s apps to other Android devices and just yesterday I got success in porting the HTC One M9 to all Android devices running Nexus, AOSP or CyanogenMod ROM and am very close to release some other apps like the One M9 Keyboard, File Manager, Gallery, Video Player, Music Player, Clock and Voice Recorder. The screenshots have been taken on the Nexus 5.

HTC One M9 Camera Port

As of now, everything works on the camera except Zoe. Having installed the camera app from the One M9, you would be able to enjoy it even before those who would buy the phone after a month. So, it’s going to be a pretty exclusive experience!

Though I have tested the mod on my Nexus 5, I wanted to check the responses of a few more people. Yesterday, I shared it on Google+ and having received a positive response from users, it’s here for you all. However, before you proceed, here’re some prerequisites you must have before flashing the M9 Camera port.

Prerequisites

  • A rooted device with TWRP Recovery installed.
  • KK (not tested) or Lollipop based AOSP or CM ROM.
  • Make sure you have 90MB free system space available on the device.

Download

M9 camera Resolution Patch.zip

The resolution patch will fix the resolution issue on your phone.

How to Install

If you have been using an AOSP or CyanogenMod ROM on your phone, you probably won’t need instructions on flashing a Zip. Still, I am providing some quick steps.

  1. Download both the Zip files from above and copy them to your phone.
  2. Reboot your device to CWM/TWRP recovery.
  3. First of all, create a backup of your ROM as a precaution.
  4. Select the Install option, navigate to M9-camera-Resolution-Patch.zip and flash it.
  5. Then also install the resolution patch file the same way.
  6. Wipe cache.
  7. Return to the main menu and reboot the device.

When you phone boots up, you will be able to use the HTC M9 camera on your phone. If you have any questions, doubts, requests (I am not sure if I’ll be able to meet them but I’ll try) or if you want to share your feedback, please leave a comment below or join the discussion at Google+.

It won’t work on HTC One M8 with Sense ROM because app package will clash.

I’m using the standard lock screen that has the camera swipe icon in the lower right. When I use that to open the camera, it opens the android camera. Any way to change that?

Go into apps, select the standard camera, and scroll down to “clear defaults”, if you installed the HTC camera correctly, it will ask you the next time you open it. That, or download the google camera, and it will ask you then, because there’s new options. Running Illusion also, and that’s what worked for me

I think the package names for both the cameras are the same so it shout either replace the old app or give error after installing.
