Wipe Data and Perform Factory Reset on Moto Z/Moto Z Force

Ronit Dias | 29 Aug 2016 | Guides/ Motorola

Although the Moto Z and Moto Z Force boast a whopping 4GB of RAM and the top of the line Snapdragon 820 SoC, it ultimately boils down to how fine-tuned Android is to run on these specs. There are many applications that can slow down even the most high-end devices. But if god forbid your Android device gets by some malware, or if the time comes where you need a fresh start then you need to know how to factory reset or wipe data, depending on your situation.

Remember to first refer our guide on how to enter the stock recovery of the device, then choose from the options below depending on which action you wish to execute.

How to Perform Factory Reset on Moto Z

  • Make sure you have sufficient charge in your Moto Z/Moto Z Force.
  • Reboot your Moto Z/Moto Z Force into Recovery Mode using one of the two methods mentioned in the guide above.
  • Scroll up and down using the Volume keys and Select using the Power Key.
  • Once you have entered Recovery Mode, scroll down and Select ‘Advanced’.
  • In the ‘Advanced’ options, scroll and select ‘Format Data’.

Confirm your selection and this will format all the data on your Moto Z/Moto Z Force. Once done simply Reboot your device from the Recovery Menu.

How to Wipe Data and Cache

If you only need to wipe all installed applications and the device cache but you want to keep your internal storage data, then you should follow these steps.

  • Once you have entered Recovery Mode, scroll down and Select ‘Wipe Data and Cache’

Confirm your selection and the device will wipe all installed apps and cache. Once done simply select ‘Reboot’ from the Recovery Mode and Reboot your device.

And that’s how to Format/Wipe Data from your Moto Z/Moto Z Force using the stock Recovery Mode. If you had any issues during any of the processes then do let us know in the comments sections below.
