Samsung Galaxy A5 will get a 2017 refresh

James H. Carter | 28 Jan 2017 | Android News/ Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy A series was created for those that have trouble purchasing a flagship device. While providing manageable specifications and a good design, the Galaxy A devices come with a significantly reduced price tag, which is their main selling strength.  Samsung’s Galaxy A5 was met with overall positive feedback, and this year will see a return of both Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A3. In anticipation of their release, we will be taking the former and seeing what kind of gear it will be packing under the hood. This will help users better decide whether it is worth upgrading their current Galaxy A5 or if the new version is good as a device regardless of its predecessor. Let’s bite into what we know about the handset and see where it stands.

Display

The handset will feature a 5.2 inch display powered by Super AMOLED tech and providing a 1920 x 1080 resolution. These are good numbers for any device, let alone one that is oriented around a friendlier budget. It is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.

Performance

The Exynos 7880 is Samsung’s signature processor. It’s an octa core chip clocked at 1.9 GHz. The GPU on duty is the Mali T830MP3 processor. The two are supported by 3 GB of RAM. In terms of storage, users will have up to 256 GB at their disposal if the opt for a mciroSD card. Otherwise, it’s just 32 GB. If you want to take photos, the 16 MP will facilitate your efforts, backed up by a competent front facing lens also featuring 16 MP. Able to record 1080p, the 2017 version of Galaxy A5 will provide sufficient photographic competence for all but professional photographers. The battery that holds everything together is a 3000 mAh unit that promises to keep the handset running for most of the day.
