Huge News for ARMv6 Device Users Aspiring ICS - Firefox For Android Adds Support For ARMv6 Devices - Droid Views

Being a low-end device user is considered a misfortune by many. Why? Because all we officially have is an upgrade till Gingerbread. Gingerbread, the Android OS whose demand and usability is falling day by day, people are heading to new devices with the latest Android OS versions. ARMv6 users may have ICS ports but the major issues are with video playing and camcorder, which are considered as the greatest fallback for using ICS on these devices.

But, now the time has arrived. At the greatest Android community aka XDA-Developers, a sharp mind has risen from the ZTE Blade section with the power of knowledge. We all know him by Ganster41@XDA, a senior member who shall now be considered as a worthy developer.  After the disapproval of Qualcomm for releasing ARMv6 MSM7x27 OpenMAX IL Library source code for Android v4.0+, this guy decided to learn and practice the architecture of libstagefright & OMX Libraries of two different Android versions, those are Gingerbread (v2.3.x) & Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0.x), after what he concluded from this was that modifying the libstagefright code to use the legacy OMX libs (froyo or gingerbread libs) is a solution to our problem & this would solve many issues for the so-called low-end device users.

Since the first day of the introduction of his patches, most of the ARMv6 MSM7x27 ICS device developers started to merge his patched libstagefright code to their own source and compiled. Many of the developers of the following device: ZTE Blade, Samsung Galaxy Mini, LG Optimus One P500, HTC Legend & Sony Ericsson X8,  have succeeded to do so and now what they serve is a completely working Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for the daily use.

If you’re a developer and you intend to use this patch in your ROM, you shall visit the author’s GitHub where you will find all the necessary source code: Ganster41’s Github

This modified source code has been confirmed to work for Ice Cream Sandwich, while on the same side the CM10 developer from LG Optimus One section has started the project for Jelly Bean too, you will find the Jelly Bean Project XDA Thread.
