Choosing a smartphone that takes great pictures has never been easier. There are many phones out there that offer very good cameras both on paper and in the real world. what is best is a little more complicated. To do this, you need a large number of patterns for an in-depth camera shot.
For today’s best shots, we have the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, OnePlus 9 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and Sony Xperia 1 III. While there are other great contenders besides this foursome, these devices are among the best camera phones of 2021 so far. We’ve installed the latest updates on each model to ensure we get the most up-to-date camera experience.

There are a variety of sensor and lens configurations on these smartphones, but all of them offer the essentially standard zoom, main, and ultra-wide angle settings. Interestingly, the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Xperia 1 III offer the smallest main and ultra-wide angle sensors that should theoretically have a lower dynamic range and less detail capture, especially in harsher lighting conditions. OnePlus and Samsung also use pixel binning technology in their cameras, so their main cameras actually output 12MP images like the other two phones, but they benefit from more image data. uses this technique for its ultrawide camera, which is also by far the largest sensor found in all of these ultrawide cameras.
But perhaps the most interesting lens of all these phones is the Sony Xperia 1 III’s double-focal periscope zoom camera. In contrast to Samsung, which uses two independent cameras, Sony offers two optical zoom levels (2.9x and 4.4x) from a single sensor thanks to moving mechanical parts, resulting in two different focal lengths and apertures, like a real optical zoom lens, so to speak from a DSLR camera. Nevertheless, Samsung offers the largest optical zoom due to its 10x periscope camera.
It’s also worth noting that the OnePlus 9 Pro is the slightly cheaper option here, so it will be interesting to see how well this phone fares.
Without further ado, let’s dive into some pictures.
As we are picky, we can see that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is aiming for slightly higher exposure and its green tones ting a bit more towards yellow in both images. It’s a little unrealistic, but it feels more alive. the darkest of the four in the picture by the roadside, with a flatter image and attenuated reflections that are almost lifelike but possibly a little boring.
