Samsung Galaxy S7 to receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat update on January 17th

James H. Carter | 12 Jan 2017 | Android News/ Samsung

Samsung Galaxy S7 is one of the top devices awaiting the Nougat update from Google. As the Android developer released its latest operating system version, Samsung’s device saw a decrease in potential performance. For it to go back up, the handset is in need of the latest Android build which is Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Some might be wondering what’s going to happen to build 7.0. It was long announced by the Korean manufacturers that their 2016 flagship will skip the Android 7.0 roll so that it may be up to date faster.

Android 7.1 is definitely better than 7.0, as it’s a superior build in any way you want to look at it. That being said, there’s no incentive for people to complain about their handsets skipping 7.0 altogether. The update was scheduled for the 17th of January and it looks like there will be no deterrence from the original plan. The Galaxy S7 Edge was also scheduled for an update, but no confirmation has yet arrived regarding that model. Since the regular Galaxy S7 is receiving Nougat, there are strong chances for us to see that model getting and update as well.

Considering that Google came out with Nougat all the way back in November 2016, it’s safe to say that this update is long overdue. This is maybe not seen so by Google officials but Galaxy S7 owners will have no problem backing up this claim.

The Galaxy S7 from Samsung will succeed devices such as Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, as well as the Nexus phones and tablets that the Android developer had released previously. Some of the units that are already enjoying Android Nougat are the Nexus 6P, Nexus 6X and Nexus 9. Google has also released a Pixel tablet device that is currently using Android Nougat.
