Android is achieving great heights in all the aspects when it comes to competing with other OS’s smartphones. Let it be hardware specs, software updates, possibility to modify, compatibility, Android rules it all. One thing that has always pinched the Android Smartphone users is the non-availability of a content-management software for their devices. While iOS has iTunes, Blackberry has Blackberry Desktop Software, Nokia’s has Nokia PC Suite and Android has got? Unfortunately, nothing.

It has been more than a month since the Samsung Galaxy S5 was unveiled. The device can hit the stores near you any moment. However, before you hold the Galaxy S5 in you hands, you can enjoy its wallpapers, ringtones and apps on your  current device. The Galaxy S5 will be featuring a new version of its TouchWiz with many improvements and features.

Alongside many new apps, UI changes and features, the Galaxy S5 also brings a new version of the AccuWeather Clock widget. Well there is nothing special about new apps and widgets on a new smartphone, but if those goodies are ported to work on other devices, it becomes a thing of wider interest.

Albe95 from the XDA forums has successfully ported the Galaxy S5 AccuWeather widget to work on older Galaxy devices like the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. The new weather widget has a flat background and a plain look. While the options available under AccuWeather Widget settings are pretty much the same, there is one good option that most of us always longed for. Yes, the new weather app lets you set the lever of transparency for the weather widget.

If you own a Galaxy phone or tablet device and have root privileges on it, you can install the Galaxy S5 AccuWeather Widget on your device. We have tested the ported weather widget on the Note 3 and Galaxy S4 successfully. If your phone had HD or Full HD display, try it and it might work too.

  • A rooted Galaxy device.
  • TouchWiz based Odexed or Deodexed ROM

  4. Look for these 2 files:
    • AccuweatherPhone2013.apk
    • AccuweatherPhone2013.odex
  5. Now press and hold both the files one by one and select Rename option.
  6. Now rename them as shown below by adding .bak extension to them. Then select OK.Galaxy-S5-AccuWeather-root-browser
  7. Then look for the following files:
    • WeatherWidgetDaemon.apk
    • WeatherWidgetDaemon.odex
  8. And rename them by adding .bak at the end as shown on the screenshot above.
  9. Now reboot your device.
  10. Open My Files app and install the new APK files.
  11. Reboot your device again.
  12. You can now add the Galaxy S5 AccuWeather Widget on your home screen.
  13. Tap and hold the home screen, select Apps and widgets, tap the Widgets tab and select Weather 4 x 2.Galaxy-S5-AccuWeather-Widget-2
  14. Apply the widget and enjoy!

In case the Galaxy S5 AccuWeather Widget does not work on your device, go to system/app and delete the new APKs that you copied and delete them. Then remove the .bak extension from the old apps. Reboot your device and you’ll be back to the original AccuWeather widget.

Galaxy S5 AccuWeather Widget for All Devices

If the Galaxy S5 weather widget from above does not work for you, or if you have a non-Samsung Android device download XWidget app from the Play Store and then download the Galaxy S5 Weather HD widget from the app’s online store.

Enjoy the  Galaxy S5 AccuWeather Widget on your Android device and do not forget to share your experience through your comments!

What makes Android so distinct among all existing operating system for mobile devices is its immense flexibility and capability of  customization. One might question the current status of its open source nature but it’s true that once you gain root access on your Android phone or tablet, you get the license to curve and bend it to your needs and taste.

The possibilities of customization has attracted thousands of developers who work hard to add new hues and dimensions to the OS. Who can imagine a whole different look of the platform with reference to WindowsMobile or iOS? The variety that Android offers is really overwhelming. The various OEM specific UXs and ROMs like CM, PA and MIUI are some of its sterling examples.

There are various ways in which you can personalize your Android device. The things that go into customization our devices are custom ROMs, home launchers, widgets, icon packs, UI mods, wallpapers and fonts. At DroidViews, we keep sharing  such things and today, we are here with a good bunch of custom fonts for your Android phone or tablet.

Of course, you can find some good paid apps and enjoy fonts of your choice on your device but if you have root access, you can also install custom fonts on Android for free. XDA contributor gianton has shared hundreds of beautiful fonts for Android device. These fonts are available as flashable ZIPs that can be installed using a custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP. By downloading his mega pack, you can have 355 custom fonts for your Android. By visiting gianton’s original thread, you can download most of the fonts separately too.

I have tested some of these fonts on 4 of my devices (Galaxy S4, Note 3, Nexus 5 and HTC One) and they worked perfect on all of them. So, if you want your favorite font to add to the beauty of your phone’s UI, just download the fonts, flash them and experience the novelty.

Download Fonts:

DownloadInstall 355 Custom Fonts on Android

As for the compatibility of these custom fonts, they can be flashe on any rooted Android phone or tablet device running:

  • Android 4.x.x (ICS, Jelly Bean, KitKat)
  • TouchWiz, Sense 5/5.5, AOSP, CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid, Google Play Edition, MIUI and others.

Installing Custom Fonts:

Please note that flashing any of the fonts ZIP pack will not add new fonts to your device. They would rather replace the original fonts found on the system/fonts directory of your device. That’s to say, you’ll be able to use just one font at a time. If you wish to try another font, you’ll have to flash it again.

  1. Copy the desired font (zip) file to your phone’s internal or external SD.
  2. Reboot your device into CWM/TWRP recovery mode. If you do not know the hardware key-combo to enter recovery, try one of these apps.
  3. Do not forget to backup your current ROM before trying the fonts.
  4. In the recovery mode, select the “Install” option (in TWRP) or “install zip from sdcard” (in CWM).
  5. Navigate to the font zip file, select it and confirm the installation.
  6. When the font is flashed, “wipe dalvik cache”.
  7. Finally, reboot the device.

Your phone will reboot and you will see “Android is upgrading…” message on the screen. You should now see the newly installed font applied to your device. Enjoy!

The rumors were already there and were later confirmed by Samsung too that the manufacturer has been cooking the Android KitKat confectionery behind the scenes and is planning to serve it by the end of January or early February. The latest leaked firmware from Samsung can be seen as a confirmation to all that we had been hearing so far.

Sammobile has released the leaked version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware for the LTE variant of the Galaxy S4. As for the performance of the firmware, it is very stable and it is another indication that the official release is just round the corner. However,  before the official firmware begins rolling out,  the user of this phone can feel themselves lucky to have the luxury of enjoying the TW-KitKat combo before the owners of any other Galaxy device.

4.4.2 is the latest version of Android currently and having updated your Galaxy S4 to it, you’ll be able to experience the new improvements and features integrated in Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface. Though the new KitKat based firmware with build version I9505XXUFNA1 does not bring any significant graphical changes to the Galaxy S4′s UI, there is one great change that shows itself at the first glance, and that is the new transparent status bar and the whitened icons on it. Another strikingly new thing is the faster user experience. You will also see a camera shortcut on the lockscreen now. Besides, there are several other system based tweaks and optimizations for better performance.

How to Root Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 on Android 4.4.2 XXUFNA Firmware

2 1469

Since the past couple of weeks Samsung has been busy sending the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update to a range of its devices. Amidst the news that the Galaxy S4 is scheduled to receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update by the end of January next year, the Korean manufacturer is now almost done with the 4.3 update for the device. If you own an S4 from the US carrier T-Mobile and have already received the Android 4.3 update through OTA, it is very likely that you might want to root it and continue enjoying the apps that you used to do earlier.

Yesterday, we came up with rooting tutorials for AT&T and Verizon variants of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on VRUEMK2  firmware. Today, we’ll learn how we can root the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) on the same firmware version. You can now obtain superuser privileges on your Galaxy S4 easily using the same old CF-Auto-Root method devised by Chainfire.

The rooting procedure for T-Mobile Galaxy S4 is considered a little risky and if you make a mistake, it might lead into a soft-bricked device that can only be recovered by installing the official firmware back. Moreover, by rooting your phone, you’ll be voiding its warranty. Remember, you have been warned! Proceed at your own risk.

Making Preparations:

Before you actually root your Galaxy S4, there are a few things that need to be done for a pleasant result. Make sure you do not miss any of them.

Rooting Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 on VRUEMK2:

Having been done with the prerequisites mentioned above, let’s now head over to the rooting procedure. Just follow the steps described above:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S4 and boot it into the Download Mode by pressing the Volume Down + Home + Power buttons together for 2-3 seconds. When you see the warning screen, press the Volume Up key to enter Download mode.
  2. Now launch Odin by runing it as administrator.
  3. Connect your phone to the computer with USB cable and wait till it is detected by Odin. A successful connection is shown by blue signal on the ID:COM port at Odin and “Added!!” message below.
  4. Now click on the PDA button and select the “CF-Auto-Root-jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.,tar,md5″ file.
  5. Do not forget to check that only the F. Reset Time and Auto Reboot options are selected on Odin.
  6. Finally, click the Start button.
  7. This will initialize the installation and at the completion of the procedure, you will see PASS!! message on Odin.pass-on-odin
  8. You device will reboot automatically then.

Wait till your T-Mobile Galaxy S4 SGH-M919 boots up, open the app drawer and look for the SuperSU app there. If it’s present, your phone should be rooted. Launch this app and updated the binary if prompted to do so. To verify the root, install a root test app from the Play store and run it.t-mobile-galaxy-s4-root

There is a dedicated app for checking root access on Android devices. You can download it by clicking the following link:

Unable to Get Root Access While Being Rooted?

Read this Tutorial to Fix the KNOX Issue

The Verizon Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 received the first Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update with build number VRUEMJ7 back in November. To fix some bugs found in that firmware and address stability issues, Verizon rolled the VRUEMK2  OTA update earlier this month. The new update is definitely a welcome thing in that it comes with various improvements and enhancements such as better email connectivity, improved roaming in Canada and Mexico, non-Samsung charger compatibility, better data connections through proxy servers and so on.

However, if you had a rooted Galaxy S4 and you accepted the MK2 OTA on your device, you must have lost your root access. Well, you need not worry since another root exploit for the Verizon S4 on the MK2 build is now available. In many cases, Android phone users shirk from rooting their device because they are afraid of losing the manufacturer’s warranty. The Saferoot script by k1mu from XDA is does not trip the custom binary or KNOX warranty counter of your Verizon Galaxy S4 at all.

Compatible Devices:

Kimu’s root exploit for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is based on another exploit by Cubeuncube and can be used to root most American and Canadian variants of the device. The method is safe to use as its very name implies and works great on builds VRUEMJ7, VRUEMK2 and UCUEMK2 (AT&T).

Though Saferoot method described below works fine on the Verizon S4 SCH-I545 and AT&T S4 SGH-I337, we cannot warrant that it is 100% safe. Follow the guide at your own risk.

  • Download the file: Download Link 1,   Link 2,  Link 3
  • Download and install Samsung USB Driver or Kies installed on your computer. If you have Kies, make sure it is not open while you use the root exploit.
  • Go to your phone’s Settings> Developer options and enable USB Debugging. in case you do not find the developer options, follow this guide.

Rooting AT&T/Sprint/T-Mobile & Verizon S4 Using Saferoot:
